**How do I convert the XAUUSD gold price to a tola price in Pakistan?** Multiply the XAUUSD price per troy ounce by the USD/PKR rate, then divide by 2.6667, because one tola is 3/8 of a troy ounce (11.6638 grams). The Sarafa association's rate can differ from that: on 26 October 2026 it was about 1.8% above that conversion.

> **Key takeaways**
>
> - **1 troy ounce = 31.1035 g. 1 tola = 11.6638 g = 3/8 of a troy ounce.** So one ounce is 2.6667 tola.
> - **Tola price (Rs) = XAUUSD × USD/PKR ÷ 2.6667.** For 10 grams: XAUUSD × USD/PKR ÷ 3.11035.
> - The rate you see in the news is set by the **All Pakistan Sarafa Gems and Jewellers Association (APSGJA)** and can sit above or below the plain conversion.
> - XAUUSD is a 24-carat (99.99%) spot price. Jewellery is usually 22 carat and adds making charges.
> - Our signals and levels are always in **XAUUSD dollars per ounce**, the price your broker shows.

## The units

| Unit | Grams | In troy ounces | In tola |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Troy ounce (what XAUUSD is quoted in) | 31.1035 | 1 | 2.6667 |
| Tola | 11.6638 | 0.375 | 1 |
| 10 grams | 10 | 0.3215 | 0.8574 |

The troy ounce and the tola figures are from the [Royal Mint's guide to metal weights](https://lifestyle.royalmint.com/invest/investing-in-precious-metals/precious-metals-academy/precious-metals-academy-beginner-course/module-7/). Some jewellers use "tola" loosely for 10 grams of 22-carat jewellery ([PureJewels](https://www.purejewels.com/faqs/weight-and-measurement-conversions/is-the-weight-of-a-tola-the-same-worldwide/)); the APSGJA rate uses the 11.66-gram tola.

## The formula

1. Take the XAUUSD price in dollars per troy ounce.
2. Multiply by the USD/PKR rate to get rupees per ounce.
3. Divide by 2.6667 for rupees per tola, or by 3.11035 for rupees per 10 grams.

## Worked example: Monday 26 October 2026

| Step | Figure | Source |
| --- | --- | --- |
| International gold used by APSGJA | $4,009 per ounce | [The Nation](https://www.nation.com.pk/27-Oct-2026/gold-price-increases) |
| USD/PKR inter-bank close | 276.81 | [Express Tribune](https://tribune.com.pk/story/2637073/gold-prices-recover-ahead-of-fed-decision) |
| Rupees per ounce | 4,009 × 276.81 = Rs1,109,731 | Calculation |
| Converted tola price | 1,109,731 ÷ 2.6667 = **Rs416,149** | Calculation |
| APSGJA 24-carat rate per tola | **Rs423,436** | [The Nation](https://www.nation.com.pk/27-Oct-2026/gold-price-increases) |
| Difference | Rs7,287 per tola, about 1.8% | Calculation |
| Converted 10-gram price | 1,109,731 ÷ 3.11035 = Rs356,787 | Calculation |
| APSGJA 24-carat rate per 10 grams | Rs363,028 | [The Nation](https://www.nation.com.pk/27-Oct-2026/gold-price-increases) |

The same day, spot gold was $4,018.81 at 15:43 GMT and the December gold future was $4,033.60 ([Express Tribune](https://tribune.com.pk/story/2637073/gold-prices-recover-ahead-of-fed-decision)), so the dollar price you plug in matters too. Use the price at the time you compare, not the morning's.

## Why the Sarafa rate is different

- **Rupee rate.** The local market prices gold with the dollar it actually pays for imports, which is often above the inter-bank rate. Working backwards, Monday's APSGJA tola rate implies about Rs281.7 per dollar.
- **Timing.** APSGJA announces one rate a day; XAUUSD moves every second. A big move after the announcement shows up the next day.
- **Premium or discount.** Local demand, import costs and taxes add a premium on some days and a discount on others.
- **Purity and making charges.** The headline rate is 24 carat. A 22-carat jewellery price is lower per gram of metal but adds making charges.

## What this means for traders

Spot gold (XAUUSD) at a broker is the international price in dollars per ounce, so every level on FXD, such as a turning point at 4009 or a sell zone at 4040–4050, is in those units. A $10 move in XAUUSD is roughly Rs1,040 per tola at 276.81 rupees per dollar (10 × 276.81 ÷ 2.6667).
